A holiday party bus in Los Angeles costs $150 to $450 per hour for a vehicle seating 15 to 40 passengers, rising to about $500 an hour on Friday and Saturday nights in peak season. Minimums commonly run 3 to 4 hours Sunday through Thursday, 4 to 5 hours on Friday and Saturday, and 5 hours on holidays. From mid-November into early January, there are two good reasons to book one: the office holiday party and the Christmas lights tour, and one booking can cover both.

When does a party bus make sense for an LA holiday party?
A party bus earns its price when the ride is part of the event. It is built around lounge seating, so the group rides together and stays together between stops. That suits a team of 15 to 40 doing dinner and a lights tour, or a client night where the drive past the lights is the entertainment.
When the bus only moves people from the office to a ballroom and back, a charter bus or minibus seats more people for the money. In Los Angeles, though, the minimums change the math. A charter bus seats 50-56 passengers at $150 to $275 per hour, but most LA operators quote a 5-hour minimum, so even a short run prices at roughly $750 to $1,375 before gratuity. If you are paying for five hours regardless, a lights loop after dinner is the obvious way to use them.

How much does a holiday party bus cost in Los Angeles?
Multiply the booked hours, never fewer than the minimum, by the hourly rate, then add gratuity. Each example below is built from the LA rates above. They are illustrations, not quotes.
- Example: a Thursday office party with a lights loop, 20 guests, 4 hours. A party bus at $150 to $450 per hour comes to $600 to $1,800. Add 15 to 20 percent gratuity and the total lands between $690 and $2,160, or about $35 to $108 per person.
- Example: a peak Saturday in December, 30 guests, 5 hours. Peak weekend nights can reach about $500 per hour. Five hours at $500 is $2,500 before gratuity and $2,875 to $3,000 after it, or roughly $96 to $100 per person.
- Example: a small team lights tour in a sprinter van, 12 guests, 4 hours. At $125 to $250 per hour, that is $500 to $1,000, or $575 to $1,200 with 15 to 20 percent gratuity.
- Example: a minibus for 30 guests, 5 hours, the usual LA minibus minimum. At $125 to $200 per hour, that is $625 to $1,000, or about $690 to $1,150 with 10 to 15 percent gratuity.

Why can the final bill come in above the rate you compared?
Because the hourly rate is not the total. Some operators add gratuity and a fuel surcharge on top of the quoted hourly rate, and together these can push the final bill well above the number you used to compare quotes.
Before you book, ask each operator for the all-in total in writing. It should include:
- Gratuity, stated as a dollar amount rather than "customary".
- Any fuel surcharge, and whether it is fixed at booking or can change.
- Parking, including any fees where the bus waits at a ticketed venue.
- Overtime, the rate if the night runs long, and the increment it bills in.

Where can you take a Christmas lights tour by party bus in Los Angeles?
Los Angeles has two kinds of holiday light displays: free neighborhood displays on residential streets, and ticketed displays at gardens and the zoo. We checked each one below against its organizer or an official source in September 2026. Dates change every year, so confirm them before you build a schedule.
Neighborhood displays
- Christmas Tree Lane, Altadena. A nearly mile-long row of lit deodar cedars on Santa Rosa Avenue between Woodbury Avenue and Altadena Drive, a tradition dating to 1920. The Christmas Tree Lane Altadena association says the lights come on in early December and stay lit through about the first week of January. The Lane was lit again in December 2025 after the Eaton Fire. Check this year's dates.
- Candy Cane Lane, Woodland Hills. An eight-square-block area of Woodland Hills, in the San Fernando Valley, near Lubao Avenue and Oxnard Street. According to Discover Los Angeles, it begins on the second Saturday of December and runs through the end of the year, visitors drive slowly with headlights dimmed, and residents ask that visitors drive by no later than 10 pm on weeknights and 11 pm on weekends. - Candy Cane Lane, El Segundo. A separate display on the 1200 block of East Acacia Avenue, near LAX. The City of El Segundo ran it from December 13 to 23 in 2025, 5 to 10 pm. Check this year's dates.

Ticketed displays
- L.A. Zoo Lights, Griffith Park. The Los Angeles Zoo lists its 2026 season as November 20 to January 10, 6 to 10 pm. In 2025 the event was closed most Mondays and Tuesdays and on several holidays, so check which nights it runs before you book the bus.
- Enchanted Forest of Light, Descanso Gardens, La Cañada Flintridge. Descanso lists the 2026 season as November 22, 2026 to January 9, 2027, from 5:30 to 10 pm. The gardens say capacity is limited and recommend buying tickets in advance.
Can a party bus drive through LA's neighborhood light displays?
Sometimes, and you should not assume it. None of the organizers above publishes a bus-specific rule that we could find, so vehicle access is a question for your operator, and the answer can change with the vehicle, the street and that year's traffic plan. What the organizers do publish is worth building around:
- At Christmas Tree Lane, the association asks drivers to enter Santa Rosa Avenue from Woodbury Avenue, drive north toward Altadena Drive, go slowly, and not stop or park in the middle of the Lane. There are no sidewalks and visibility is low at night, so if the group wants to walk, the operator needs a legal drop-off point on a nearby street, where parking is limited.
- At El Segundo's Candy Cane Lane, the city closed the surrounding blocks to non-resident traffic during 2025 display hours and ran a free shuttle from Recreation Park and the Public Library on select dates. Plan a drop-off outside any closure and a short walk.
For each neighborhood stop, ask the operator three things: can this vehicle legally and safely drive the street, where can guests get out to walk, and where will the bus wait. A sprinter van for 8 to 14 guests or a 24-35 passenger minibus is generally easier to maneuver on narrow residential streets than a 40-passenger party bus, but confirm the specific route either way.
How do you plan the route for an LA Christmas lights tour?
LA's displays are spread out. Altadena sits in the foothills above Pasadena, Woodland Hills is in the San Fernando Valley, El Segundo is next to LAX, and the zoo is in Griffith Park. Trying to reach all of them in one night mostly buys time in traffic, so pick one part of the region. Descanso Gardens and Christmas Tree Lane both sit in the foothill communities north of Glendale and Pasadena, which makes them a natural pairing: a ticketed stop plus a neighborhood drive.
Then build the schedule around the fixed points:
- Ticketed entry times. Buy the whole group into one entry slot and arrive with margin. The clock keeps running while the group walks through, so count that time inside your booked hours.
- Minimum hours. Plan a route that uses a 4 to 5 hour weekend minimum rather than one that ends early and wastes it.
- Pickup points. One pickup, at the office or the dinner venue, keeps the clock efficient. A chain of pickups across the Westside, the Valley and Downtown can eat a large share of your hours.
- Where the bus waits. Neither the zoo's nor Descanso's event pages publish bus drop-off or parking rules, so ask the venue and the operator.
How do you combine an office holiday party with a lights tour?
The most practical LA format is the office party or dinner first, then the lights: the bus drops the group at the venue, waits, then runs the lights route before the final drop-off. Because the minimum bills anyway, a lights leg that fits inside your booked hours adds no extra hourly charge.
A few points specific to company parties:
- Venue access. Confirm where a party bus can stop, and whether it can wait on site or must leave and return.
- Alcohol. Policies vary by operator and by state. California sets conditions when passengers under 21 are aboard a chartered party bus, and operators can set stricter rules of their own. If any guest is under 21, or the company is supplying drinks, confirm the alcohol policy with the operator in writing.
- Riders, not invitees. Size the vehicle to the people who will actually ride, not the invite list.
