Under California law (Public Utilities Code 5384.1, from AB 45), a carrier must ask at booking whether alcohol will be served or transported and whether anyone in the group is under 21. When alcohol is part of the trip and passengers under 21 are traveling without a parent or guardian, a designee aged 25 or older must be aboard and checks IDs. Individual operators and schools can set stricter rules than the state requires, so confirm the specific alcohol policy and any chaperone requirements directly with your operator and your school.
